Resumo: In this paper, we discuss the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Campo Mourão Municipal Elections, in order to analyze how the evangelical candidates linked to Assembly of God (AG), Foursquare Church (FC) and Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), trigger religious elements in electoral campaign. Based on campaign materials – flyers, mandatory electoral program, posts on social networks, among others – and semi-structured interviews conducted with the candidates during the campaign period, we aim at identify, from a longitudinal perspective, the types of candidacy and support, campaign strategies, materials produced and the dialogue established between the candidates, the churches and the electorate. The results show the presence of religious elements in different ways, such as the support of the churches, the electoral name, the use of sacred objects and biblical phrases in campaign material, and the candidates' understandings about the mission of moralizing the public space.

Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo2017-12-24info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.pucsp.br/index.php/rever/article/view/3566710.23925/1677-1222.2017vol17i3a9REVER: Journal for the Study of Religion; Vol. 17 No. 3 (2017): (In)tolerância – reflexões teóricas e concretizações históricas; 139-165REVER: Revista de Estudos da Religião; v. 17 n. 3 (2017): (In)tolerância – reflexões teóricas e concretizações históricas; 139-1651677-1222reponame:Rever (São Paulo.
