Resumo: | The present essay proposes to describe the hermeneutics that Terry Eagleton developed to read the texts of the canonical gospels. To accomplish this purpose, we reviewed the content of two texts written by the British author, The Gospels and Humor. When visiting these two writings by the British scholar, we approach the two main theories adopted by him to interpret the canonical books, namely, Marxism and the Bakhtinian carnival. The result to which it aims is a renewed procedure of reading the Bible. |

Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo2023-07-27info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.pucsp.br/index.php/rever/article/view/5954910.23925/1677-1222.2023vol23i1a7REVER: Journal for the Study of Religion; Vol. 23 No. 1 (2023): Religion and humor; 107-115REVER: Revista de Estudos da Religião; v. 23 n. 1 (2023): Religião e humor; 107-1151677-122210.23925/1677-1222.2023vol23i1reponame:Rever (São Paulo.
