Resumo: Through participatory observation from an insider perspective, hypothetical stereotypes were coming from the popular imagination about Taromancia, namely, that supposedly is an esoteric-mediumistic practice that presupposes a direct relationship of the practitioner, besides the cards, with the other world. Data collected between January 3 and February 1, 2021, through objective questionnaires of the general public and tarot professionals permitted to diagnose whether and what changes occurred at the beginning of the current century. As the researcher is also an insider, we assumed that despite remaining stereotypes from the colonial era, a process of secularization of the profession is taking place. We sought to contribute to academic research by producing knowledge and assisting in the social repositioning of the Taromancia of the 21st century.
