Buddhism: From India toward the World. The Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha

Resumo: The article reflects upon the origin of Buddhism in India, its three fundamental principles, i.e., the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha as well as basic teachings such as the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold path to illumination. Furthermore, the article sheds a light on the narratives about the life of the Buddha, the Buddhists doctrines and the community, which all emerged only after the Parinirvana of the Buddha. Finally, the reader finds an overview of the establishment of Buddhism beyond India, and its evolution in China, Japan and Tibet.
