Resumo: This paper reports the concept of guilt for Freud, who has a different approach from those commonly adopted by other areas of knowledge or even by common sense. For psychoanalysis, the guilt also involves a dynamic of the unconscious order and represents a symbolic debt of our human condition and an inevitable source of our malaise. To understand such a complex reading of Freud's guilt, it will be resumed the main concepts of psychoanalysis, as a way to explain all the consistency and evolution of his theory, from the first to the second model. Freud, using his life experience and peculiar clinical, wove an innovative theory, from the founding year of 1900 to the end of his life. Although it has been so rejected at that time, his theory resists to the criticism and time, as it is still useful to rethink the contemporary world, which some issues will be raised at the current conclusion. Freud believed that many of the conscious manifestations have explanation from the repressed unconscious contents. Repression must be understood through the sexual theories and the concept of the Oedipus complex, providing the origins of the guilt for Freud. It will be understood that the genesis of mental illness and of humanity itself is identified as the genesis of the moral demands of civilization against sexuality and aggression. From this conflict between desire and prohibition comes the inevitable malaise of the human. Freud identifies various destinations for the flow of sexual and aggressive impulses, which sublimation is the most socially healthy. But Freud also notes that, although uncovered the reasons for antisocial behavior and psychopathology, such destinations are often not sufficient to the "domestication" of these impulses. Surprised by the First World War and, therefore, the ability of human beings to seek destruction and death, Freud introduced the concept of impulse of life and death. He also introduced new concepts to explain the complexity of the psychic apparatus and, at the same time, he improved his theory with the social texts. Thus, making an overflight on his clinical and social texts, following the evolution of his vast and extensive work, this paper draws a conclusion from the inevitable ambivalence of the human being and, therefore, the frustration of being civilized, to clarify the mature contribution of the psychoanalysis view to the various areas of knowledge and, perhaps, to common sense, approaching and embracing the individuals about their common origin: guilty and imperfection
