This research goes to those of the Second Vatican Council, especially the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium, and how was the development of the doctrine until the promulgation of the Motu Proprio Apostolica Sollicitudo with the institution of the Synod of Bishops. Part of this new reality will be explained how was the development throughout the pontificates Paul VI, John Paul II, Benedict XVI and in the pontificate of Francis emerges the invitation to the Synodality of the Church. In addition, it will be presented how the Synod of Bishops becomes an ecclesial body that contributes directly to Francis' desire, being, increasingly, an instrument of ecclesial communion and a model for the totality of all to participate in an active way of the ecclesial reflections. This research will contribute to the celebration of the 2023 Synod – For a Synodal Church
