Resumo: The essay analyzes a selection of photographs by Pierre Verger and Robério Braga in light of a thick interpretation, which intends to demonstrate how both of them build an inter-civilizational dialogue through their languages, between documentation and artistic expression. Analysis is made in accordance with a double conceptual axis: on the one side, historical, sociological and anthropological aspects that identify cultural and civilizational resemblances between Brazil and Africa, and on the other side, aspects inherent to photography’s language, to semiotics and to art theory. Thus, the essay concludes that Verger constructs a visual anthropology as of his photographs, which reveals African and Afro-Brazilian civilizations under a sensitive and aesthetical perspective, and that Braga creates a critical discourse through his imagery that values and gives prominence to Africanity, overlapping historical and contemporary times, in a metaphorical and poetical way, but which transcends to anthropological consideration
