Resumo: | This monograph has as its object of study the production of Lydia Okumura, Japanese-Brazilian artist Lydia Okumura (1948-) known for works with the construction of geometries from two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces. The work seeks to trace its trajectory from three perspectives: the years of its formation, in the early 70s, marked by its performance within the context of the recently opened Musem of Contemporary Art (MAC-USP), as part of a generation of young artists experimenting with new artistic languages and collective forms of production; then, from 1974 onwards, in search of better insertion in international scene, the artist becomes part of the group of contemporary Brazilian artists who will live in New York, a movement named by Dária Jaremtchuk as artistic exile, which is observed through its specifical implications in Okumura’s artistic language, and also in the light of Edward Said's reflections on exile and expatriation. Finally, in the light of theoretical references such as “The Distribution of the Sensible”(2000) by Jacques Rancière and Gaston Bachelard’s “The Poetics of Space”(1957), the entire body of the artist's works is analyzed based on their phenomenological qualities and the philosophical dimension of the architectural metaphors that she creates, from the reading of works of different categories |
