This research has as its theme the uniqueness and power of the female characters in the novel Homens imprudentemente poéticos (2016), by Valter Hugo Mãe, and the effects of meaning and impacts generated in the narrative from the construction of these characters. It starts from the hypothesis that the female characters are fundamental and often responsible for conducting the plot, therefore, it seeks to investigate how its elaboration takes place discursively. The objective is to analyze the female characters in the author's previous novels and in the corpus of this research. For this purpose, we used Bakhtin Circle's studies on the character, the voice, and the dialogic interactions capable of producing meaning from the tensions of the utterances as the main theoretical and methodological contribution. To study the dead character in the narrative but reworked by memory we resort to Gagnebin (2018) and Ricouer (2020). Mourning and melancholy have reflections based on the classic essay by Sigmund Freud (2010). The research is mainly justified by the approach given to the female character in the novel prose of Mãe which, in spite of its relevance, is still little studied, and by considering the study of literary language from a dialogic perspective, an unprecedented way of looking at the research corpus
