The subject from the psychoanalysis is the one divided between what it intends to say and what it really says, in other words, a subject of the unconscious, that comes from the registers Imaginary, Symbolic and Real. We propose the question of how it is to this subject to be in a world full of stimuli that constantly summon him up to something that is actually about himself. Therefore, this paper has the purpose to highlight the effects of the fortuitous event through the invocatory drive in the listening of the subject of the unconscious, using the literary work “The event”, from Annie Ernaux, as a material to articulate with the psychoanalytic theory approached. Besides, the chosen methodology is based on the work and theoretical streaming of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan and from contemporary critics, which involve the state of art of the matter. Reflecting on the issue of the listening of the subject, we could approach the concepts of the invocatory drive, the lacanian registers, the logical time, the significant chain and the oceanic and desertic feelings. From this point it is possible to conclude that chance carries something that is Real and it scares, as long as it also reveals the desire that belongs to the subject. The subject that we aimed to listen to is, therefore, a desiring subject
