The aim of the study was to know the new meaning of old age, which is the foundation of the International Policy of Active Aging, in order to reflect its impacts on the context of inequalities in Brazil. The adopted methodology was the qualitative and descriptive. In its operationality, was established an analytical link macro and micropolitics in correlations with the Brazilian elderly segment, and there was a field study as well, which enabled the systematization conducted with professionals working in referral services for the elderly of the Municipal Social Welfare Policy in São José dos Campos-SP, known as Casa do Idoso (Home of the Elderly) units. Marxist studies and critical gerontological studies were adopted as theoretical foundation, which facilitated the criticality to reflections. The methodological procedures together with the theoretical bases brought greater completeness to the study objective. The hypothesis states that economicist meanings of old age that are currently engendered by the ideas of "Active Aging instrumentalize more impetuous forms of expanding capitalist interests that undermine the protections of weaknesses in old age: which aggravate the risks of vulnerability in the context of inequalities in Brazil. The data addressed in the study indicated that the contemporaneous meanings of old age resize the challenges posed to horizons of the ethical political project of the f3razilian Social Service in its perspectives of old age with rights and citizenship
