This final paper has the objective to analyze the expansion of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) condition, given bilaterally by the United States, from members, partners, and allies perspective. The transformations experienced in the global world order in force and the outbreak of pertinent events, as the War in Ukraine, the tensions between China and Taiwan, the endurance of terrorism and narcotraffic, and the comeback of older ones, such as nuclear weapons and territorial and sovereignty disputes, substantiates a background that requires understanding of secure instruments and international security institutions which seek to expand their influence and face obstacles when solving issues and accomplish objectives by their own. Thus, this study addresses fundamentals, implications and interests of the actors involved pointing norms, procedures, institutional and legislative instruments, principles and presupposes in order to conduct an effort with the objective of gathering and presenting key points of both for future understanding of the purposes. From OTAN’s perspective, Article 5 is one of the central topics of the organization and its strategic plans give the approach and tone of the future along with its thematic and locality expansion, whereas the condition is based majoritarily on military and defense aspects. Then, the actors are presented according to a chronological sequence of accession and their own interests, with great, however not exclusive, emphasis on the United States, for assist in the comprehension of the movements made or in progress in the international scenery via organization or denomination side by side members and partners in OTAN’s case and allies in MNNA’s case. Finally, the expansion or atrophy of both conclude the paper according to the ongoing context and arguing that the two still relevant and resilient in face of their challenges, emphasizing the efficiency of NATO’s collective defense repelling attacks during decades and the union within its members vis a vis the war in Ukraine and the military strength of the United States and its capacity of mobilization and the singularity of its own position in the defense area
