This monograph aims to analyze the zombie's reintegration into culture from the model created by George Romero, American director, whose career was catapulted to stardom after the release of his film on this hideous creature, Night of the Living Dead (1968). This model points us to a decrepit boing, who returns from the dead to haunt and devour those still living. His figure, not far inspires confidence or some kind of affection: they are ruthless and don’t forgive even relatives; they come back, but everything that made them humans remains in the realm of the dead. These figures, in all its decrepitude, have been revived in culture through movies, series, books and games. Unlike their deceased cronies vampires, whose existence evokes sensuality and a call to eternal life, the zombie return requires a sharp look, because his understanding is obtuse. To this end, this monograph goes through the mechanisms of creating monsters, a brief analysis of George Romero’s film trilogy about zombie movies, the history of death in the West, the issue of the death drive and finally a contemporary reading of Bauman and Freud’s texts. It concludes with possible hypotheses about the investigated phenomenon and the pointing of what seems most striking and making feasible the fanciful elucidated by zombie
