The current research has the aim to revisit how the process of condemning Animal Magnetism took place as proposed by Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815).In order to achieve this, we will analyse the works by the controversial 18th Century German doctor, as well as the reports of the Royal Commissions summoned by King Louis XVI of France, which investigated and concluded the dismissal of the mesmerian Animal Magnetism. Regardless of having graduated from the recently reformed and highly respected University of Vienna, Mesmer recovered the oldest theories of the health-illness process, making his own version, in which according to him would be an innovative way to treat diseases.There were many involved in this movement commanded by Mesmer, from secret societies to government and academic institutions. Finally, authorities from the most diverse sciences of the time participated in the Royal Commissions who, adepts of new models of experimentation, were unable to verify the existence of Animal Magnetism or the effectiveness of mesmerian cures
