This paper aims to present an analysis of the issue of COVID-19 vaccine patents and the geopolitical issues surrounding this issue, as well as the possible impacts of intellectual property in times of crisis, i.e., what possible situations could or could not be avoided with specific patent breaks. To this end, this research analyzes the history and influence of institutions like the WTO and political-economic groups like the countries of the Global South and the big pharmaceutical companies, more precisely how these groups relate to the laws and international agreements that govern them. Besides the analysis of the specific actors, several cases of patent breaking will also be analyzed with the main one being the Indian proposal for patent breaking of COVID-19 in addition to the TRIPS agreement that governs intellectual property. Also within the scope of intellectual property, some attention will be given to the theories that defend the existence of this type of property as well as minor criticisms will be made pertinent to these views
