Resumo: To be and to act ethically are important attitudes for a good coexistence among human beings. For the Christian, to act ethically means to act in the manner of Christ. Jesus Christ's actions were guided by mercy. Jesus' life, his actions were characterized by mercy towards all human misery. Therefore, the present work maintains that mercy is the foundation of Christian action, for the sake of building the Kingdom of God. Among the various characteristics of the Kingdom of God are the fight against hunger, solidarity, human dignity, full life, and fraternity. These are signs that should guide all Christian action. Hence, to speak of an ethic that is authentically Christian implies speaking of a following of Christ, “sequela Christi”, based on the practice of mercy. The work is divided into three chapters: the first one takes a conceptual approach to mercy, and also seeks to understand mercy in Sacred Scripture, in Sacred Tradition, and in the Magisterium of the Church. The second chapter approaches the issue of Christian ethics: its characteristics, specificities, principles, and foundations. The third chapter seeks to identify some of Jesus' practices that are the foundation of his ethical and merciful actions, as well as to identify the motivations that lead Jesus to act mercifully, the purpose of Jesus' merciful actions. Finally, it identifies some characteristics of the Kingdom of God, fruit of Jesus' merciful actions

Para o cristão, agir eticamente significa agir à maneira de Cristo. O agir de Jesus Cristo era pautado pela misericórdia. A vida de Jesus, o seu agir caracterizou-se pela misericórdia junto a toda a miséria humana, por isso, o presente trabalho, sustenta que a misericórdia é o fundamento do agir cristão, em prol da construção do Reino de Deus. Dentre as várias característica do Reino de Deus, encontram-se o combate à fome, a solidariedade, a dignidade humana, a vida plena, fraternidade. Sinais estes que devem nortearem toda o agir cristão. Daí que falar de uma ética autenticamente cristã, implica falar de um seguimento de Cristo, “sequela Christi”, pautada na prática misericordiosa. O trabalho está dividido em três capítulos: o primeiro faz uma abordagem conceitual da misericórdia, também procura entender a misericórdia na Sagrada Escritura, na Sagrada Tradição e no Magistério da Igreja. No segundo capítulo, aborda-se a questão da ética cristã: suas características, especificidades, princípios e fundamentos. O terceiro capítulo, procura identificar algumas práticas de Jesus, que fundamentam o agir ético misericordioso; bem como identificar as motivações que levam Jesus a agir misericordiosamente, finalidade do agir misericordioso de Jesus.
