Resumo: | Underground works are becoming increasingly common in Brazil, specifically in the state of São Paulo, due to its high population density. Currently, the largest tunneling projects focus on urban mobility, thus expanding the metro-rail network that serves the central and metropolitan regions of the state. With this growing demand, technologies and methods for these constructions have been updated, with the most used being the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) and mechanized excavations using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM). To carry out this type of work, a prior investigation of the massif to be excavated is necessary to predict its behavior and understand how it will be impacted, as well as the extent of the damage that may occur in adjacent areas. To understand this behavior, geotechnical tests and investigations are carried out, and instrumentation is used for monitoring. With this data, it is possible to calculate the forecast of the excavation behavior. Having this background, the present project aims to propose a case study with a geological profile of Line 2 of the São Paulo metro, regarding the deformation calculation methods resulting from tunnel excavation using the NATM and TBM methods. The research objective is to conduct a comparative analysis of settlements and deformations using the Mohr-Coulomb calculation method and the FLAC 2D software applied to both excavation methods. From this comparative analysis between excavation methods in sandy and clayey soil, it can be concluded that the increasing use of tunnel boring machines is justified not only for the automation of the construction process but also because the method affects the excavated massif in a less significant way, resulting in smaller settlements and tensions during excavation. Therefore, its impact on adjacent areas is significantly lower |
