Resumo: The cryptocurrency universe has been taking, each day, more part in a daily basis, but it is still surrounded by unfamiliarity. This paper’s goal is to get deeper into cryptocurrency, focusing on the two major systems nowadays, Bitcoin and Ethereum. Both posses’ different aims and characteristics, however they compete in the current market. Therefore, this project’s objective is to comprehend how Ethereum can take place next to Bitcoin considering its capabilities, from the general public’s perspective, considering that the value of a cryptoasset comes from what it does and if de market sees value on that. Thereunto, research was applied aiming to understand the preferences among the systems by taking into knowledge their main characteristics. From the user’s perspective Bitcoin, the most known, still has more value and reliability to the public, however, through the investor’s perspective, considering the variety of possibilities provided by Ethereum, there is a very divided opinion between them

Este trabalho tem como escopo se aprofundar nas criptomoedas, mais especificamente nos dois maiores sistemas atualmente, o Bitcoin e o Ethereum. Ambas possuem características e objetivos diferentes, mas são competidoras no mercado atual. Portanto, o objetivo do trabalho é compreender de que forma o Ethereum pode se posicionar frente ao Bitcoin considerando suas capacidades, a partir de uma ótica do público geral, uma vez que o valor de um criptoativo deriva do que ele se propõe a fazer e se o mercado enxerga valor nesse propósito. Para isso foi aplicada uma pesquisa, visando entender qual a preferência entre os dois sistemas a partir de suas características mais marcantes.
