This PhD Thesis is the result of research "Old Age and Spirituality in Perspective of Analytical Psychology" performed at Department of Psychosomatics and Hospital Psychology from PUCSP. The quantitative and qualitative methods were used for analysis of the results. The general objective of the study was to understand the perception of the elderly on the aging process and the experience of spirituality in this phase of life. This research was conducted with a sample of 100 elderly people, and average age of 74.8 years. Data collection was conducted in two institutions that assist the elderly in the city of São Paulo and metropolitan region of São Paulo. The instruments used in data collection were: Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE), translated and adapted by Bertolucci et al. (1994), Semi-Structured Interview, developed by the researcher; Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWB Scale), Paloutzian & Ellison (1982), translated from English to Portuguese by Mello (2010). The general results of the narratives of the participants indicate that the meaning of old age is linked to the social support of the family, health and physical vigour, participation in group activities, autonomy to new learning, life quality and spirituality, experience / maturity / wisdom. The sense of spirituality in old age was linked to close contact with God / prayer, harmony with the universe, faith, love of neighbor, coping capacity and old age as a time to live fully spirituality. Regarding to distribution of Spiritual Well-being Scale results, 51% of the sample has a moderate sense of spiritual well-being and 49% high sense of spiritual well-being. We conclude this research considering for most of the elderly, aging is characterized as a propitious moment to experience spirituality, an essential element in the individuation process, consciousness expansion, self-transcendence, encounter with the oneself
