This thesis aims to understand José Comblin as an ecclesiastical event fundamentally linked to the Second Vatican Council. The research seeks to find in the life and works of the Belgian theologian, based in Brazil, the valid elements that characterize it as an event. For this, the contribution of philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Michael Foucault is used, who dedicated themselves to studying the characteristics of an event. Comblin, as a theologian and missionary, stands out for analyzing and receiving the Council, allowing himself to be inspired especially by the Theology of the People of God, which is developed in his book The People of God. He receives the new conciliar ecclesiology centered on the understanding of the Church as the People of God and applies it to his theological work and missionary life. Through the hermeneutics of discontinuity-continuity he analyzes the signs of the times with his peculiar way of seeing the Church and Society. It becomes a new event when revisiting the Council seeking the elements to elaborate his sensitively differentiated theology enriched by his experiences as a missionary in Latin American lands, especially Brazil. When revisiting the life and work of José Comblin, an effort is made here to understand him as a theologian who currently offers many insights into the Church's role in its evangelizing mission and dialogue with Society. The analytical approach constitutes, in addition to a revisitation of José Comblin's biographical and bibliographical sources, it wishes to offer an updated reading of his theological work
