O luto em razão da vivência do transtorno mental: percepções e expressões dos pacientes na modelagem em argila

Despite the efforts of the psychiatric reform, the social-historical vision spread about mental disorder still promotes stigmas and prejudice to the psychiatric patient, leading to an increase in suffering, shame and isolation. After mental sickening and the disorder experience, a significant rupture in the person’s daily life is noticeable, causing a disruption in the continuity of life in routine activities and changes in the interpersonal and intrapersonal relations. Grief, in this context, understood as a psychosocial transition, starts a moment of crisis, with loss of the presumed world, sensation of depersonalization in which the identity suffers a disorganization and cannot recognize itself any longer, new and challenging roles and situations are unveiled, and feelings of several kinds take over reality. In the present work it was used the qualitative method in order to comprehend, through clay modelling, the perceptions and expressions of grief experience in psychiatric patients caused by mental disorder experience. A study of multiple cases was conducted with four participants, with the investigation made by semi-structured interviews followed by clay modelling. The data was individually evaluated using the thematic analysis technique, and afterwards, discussed in an integrated way, guided by the vision of disenfranchised grief, by the the Psychosocial Transitions theory and Jungian Psychology. In the case study particular themes were found, such as: social death, with loss in the labor, relational, social and affective contexts; sensation of self-loss; disruption in daily activities with difficulties for reorganizing life and routine; livingness of stigma and prejudice, leading to greater isolation and social occultation of the diagnosis, feelings and difficulties; limitations; social inclusion difficulty; support net as factor of protection and aid in the reconstruction movement and in the elaboration of sickening as personal growth. The clay enabled the participants an internal dialogue in a more affective and reflexive way if compared to the interview, and it expressed that the grieving process demanded adaptation in several areas of life, boosting a resignification of the disorder, life review and maturation of the being. In that way, the verbal communication and the clay showed themselves adequate not only to the understanding of the disenfranchised grieves in mental disorder, but also to the experience of new possibilities, personal restructurings and the discovery of new paths
