Resumo: The growing interest in cultural phenomena in behavior analysis resulted in a growing interest for new methods and concepts related to groups and for phenomena and concepts relevant in social psychology, for example, the concept of conformity (and non-conformity). In behavior analysis, the concept of macrobehavior – a set of observable behavior similar in the repertoires of different individuals – has been cited as a possible unit of analysis of cultural phenomena. The study of macrobehavior considering the social conformity as a relevant variable to describe the selection and maintenance – or transmission – of cultural practices can contribute to the analysis of cultural phenomena. This work comprises two studies, in the first one the effect of a macrobehavior upon the selection and maintenance of similar topographies behaviors in a specific individual was investigated. In the second study was investigated if macrobehaviors are selected by consequences contingent on individual behavior of individuals in a group. In Study 1, the direct reinforcement of conformity or nonconformity was assessed in a experiment in which 8 participants were exposed to a reversal design. In a trial procedure, each person of a 5-person group – 4 confederates and a target participant – were asked if a 2-color abstract image had white or black as predominant color. All imagens had exactly 50% of white and 50% of black. Each trial, a new image was presented, and each person had to declare in the image had more “black” or “white”. Three confederates declared the same color and one of them declared another in each trial. The target participant was always the last to choose. The experimenter’s declaration of the correct color ended the trials in B and C conditions. In A contidion, baseline, the experimenter only registred the declarations. In the B condition (reinforcement of nonconformity), the experimenter declared in the end of each trial that the color chosen by the minority were correct. In the C condition (reinforcement of conformity) the color chosen by the majority was announced as correct. Four participants passed through the ABACA design and the other four the ACABA design. The A condition had 12 trials and the B and C had between 20 and 50 trials depending on participants performance. The results showed and increase in conformity in the condition C. When the B condition preceded the C condition, the effect of reinforcement over nonconformity were bigger than when condition C were present first. The Study 2 aimed to assess the role of external consequences upon a macrobehavior. The method was similar to Study 1, but the whole group were formed by naive participants (there were no confederates). The results showed that in B condition there was more diversity of individual responses than in C condition and no individual were always part of the minority. There was an observed effect of the order of presentation of experimental conditions

The results showed that in B condition there was more diversity of individual responses than in C condition and no individual were always part of the minority. There was an observed effect of the order of presentation of experimental conditionsO crescente interesse por fenômenos culturais na análise do comportamento resultou também em crescente interesse por novos métodos e conceitos relacionados a grupos e por fenômentos e conceitos relevantes na psicologia social, como, por exemplo, o conceito de conformidade (e não conformidade) definida como uma tendência de copiar o comportamento da maioria dos indivíduos dentro de um grupo. Na análise do comportamento o conceito de macrocomportamento – um conjunto de comportamentos observáveis semelhantes no repertório de diferentes indivíduos – tem sido citado como uma possibilidade de unidade de análise de fenômenos culturais. O estudo do macrocomportamento e de conformidade social como uma eventual variável relevante para descrever a seleção e manutenção – ou transmissão – de práticas culturais pode contribuir para a análise de fenômenos culturais. O presente trabalho é constituído de dois estudos, no primeiro estudo foi investigado o efeito de um macrocomportamento sobre a seleção e manutenção de comportamentos de semelhante topografia em um indivíduo alvo e no segundo estudo foi investigado se macrocomportamentos são seleciondos por consequências individuais contingentes ao comportamento de indivíduos em um grupo. No Estudo 1, o reforçamento direto da conformidade e não conformidade foram avaliados em um experimento no qual 8 particpantes foram expostos a um delineamento de reversão . Em um procedimento de tentativas perguntava-se a cada pessoa de um grupo composto de 5 pessoas – 4 confederados e um particpante-alvo – se uma imagem abstrata de duas cores, tinha predominância de branco ou de preto. Todas as imagens apresentadas tinham exetament 50% de branco e 50% de preto. A cada tentativa uma nova imagem era apresentada e solicitava-se que cada pessoa declarasse se a imagem tinha mais “preto” ou mais “branco”. Em cada tentativa, três confederados declaravam uma mesma cor e um deles declarava outra cor. O participante alvo era sempre o último a fazer a escolha. A declaração do experimentador sobre a cor predominante encerrava as tentatvas nas condições B e C. Na Condição A, de linha a de base, o experimentador apenas registrava as declarações. Na condição B (reforçamento da não conformidade) o experimentador declarava ao final da tentativa que a cor escolhida pela minoria era a correta . Na condição C (reforçamento da conformidade) a cor escolhida pela maioria era a anunciada pelo experimentador como correta. Quatro participantes passaram pelas condições ABACA e outros quatro ACABA. A condição A teve 12 tentativas e as condições B e C tiveram entre 20 e 50 tentativas a depender do desempenho do participante. Os resultados mostraram um aumento da conformidade na condição C. Quando a condição B antecedeu a condição C, o efeito do reforçamento sobre a não conformidade foi maior do que quando a condição C foi apresentada primeiro. O Estudo 2 foi conduzido para avaliar o papel de consequências externas sobre um macrocomportamento. O método foi semelhante ao Estudo 1, mas, o grupo todo foi formado por participantes ingênuos (não houve confederados). Os resultados mostaram que na condição B houve mais diversidade de respostas individuais do que na condição C e nenhum indivíduo manteve-se sempre parte da minoria. Um efeito da ordem de apresentação das condiçoes experimentais também foi observadoCoordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESapplication/pdfhttp://tede2.pucsp.br/tede/retrieve/49416/Henrique%20Valle%20Belo%20Ribeiro%20Angelo.pdf.jpgporPontifícia Universidade Católica de São PauloPrograma de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Psicologia Experimental: Análise do ComportamentoPUC-SPBrasilFaculdade de Ciências Humanas e da SaúdeConformidade socialMacrocomportamentoComportamento socialSocial conformityMacrobehaviorSocial behaviorCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::PSICOLOGIA::PSICOLOGIA EXPERIMENTALSobre maiorias e minorias: estudos sobre conformidade, não conformidade e macrocomportamentoAbout majorities and minorities: studies about conformity, nonconformity and macrobehaviorinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da PUC_SPinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP)instacron:PUC_SPTEXTHenrique Valle Belo Ribeiro Angelo.pdf.txtHenrique Valle Belo Ribeiro Angelo.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain221889https://repositorio.pucsp.br/xmlui/bitstream/handle/22306/4/Henrique%20Valle%20Belo%20Ribeiro%20Angelo.pdf.txt5c22a381ac9dd139c99a6c3247531c1bMD54LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
