Resumo: Slavery, a form of employment relationship in which one human being has the right to own another, has been part of human history in different times, cultures and regions. Despite the advancement of legislation at national and international level, the issue is still present and needs attention. The main objective of the work is to analyze the manifestation of slavery throughout history, persisting to the present day despite the legislative evolution in the world and, in particular, in Brazil, in addition to evaluating the country's contentious experiences with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, as well as the repressive measures of Brazilian official bodies and civil organizations. It is therefore proposed social measures that allow people to stop being vulnerable to contemporary slavery
