Análise da produção científica nacional sobre distonia focal: áreas fonoaudiológica e médica

Introduction: This research about the characteristics of scientific production on the focal dystonia in brasilian Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences and Medical Sciences is relevant to provide some organization to previous research and support further studies. It also allows a critical eye on the research and theorizing movement undertaken. Objective: Data collection and characterization of part of the scientific and medical research about the Brazilian focal dystonia, between the years 1980 and 2009. Method: To analyze specialized magazines on Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences and Medicine, from 1980 to 2009, conserning the publication period; distribution per period; theme; methodological procedure, epistemological affiliation and Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences and Medicine areas. Results: 37 documents were found. About distribution significant growth was found especially in the last decade of this century, which follows the trend identified in other areas of speech fields. From 1980 to 1989 were published 6 (16%) articles, from 1990 to 1999, 11 (30%) from 2000 to 2009, 20 (54%). Seven themes were founded. The most discussed were: "Characterization of Dystonia" and "Effect of Botulinum Toxin" with 13 articles each (35%), the last with over 77% of the publication from 2000 to 2009. Two epistemological affiliations were found: the positivist 97% (36) and the dialectical-historical 3% (1). The "Experimental" procedure was found in 13 papers; the "Clinical Case Study" in 11; the "Bibliographical Study" in 9. the “Data Collection” in 4. Conclusion: There is not enough studies yet, about the effect of Botulinum Toxin application on vocal health, more research is neded. Deeper comprehension about the focal dystonia may emerge from researches which take in account subjectivity
