Cryptocurrencies are emerging as a hub of financial and technological innovation that challenges conventional paradigms. These digital currencies, including Bitcoin, have not only become avenues for new investment opportunities but also drive a revolution in the realms of finance and technology. The underlying technology of these assets, blockchain, holds transformative potential capable of reshaping multiple sectors, spanning from healthcare to governance and supply chains. This monograph embarks on a captivating exploration of the origins of cryptocurrencies and their unique properties and characteristics. A deep investigation into the roots of Bitcoin and other digital currencies that followed its path forms the core of our analysis. Throughout our exploration, we consider the economic and technological context that fueled their creation, as well as the underlying purpose of these innovations.
