With the implementation of the National Policy on Integrative Practices in 2006 and evolution of primary care in the Unified Health System (SUS), users of this service have specialized care, and acupuncture service and other practices of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), part of the Basic Units of health and Hospitals, integrating the care of public health for the population. Objective: The objective of this work was to review the evolution of acupuncture services offered in the public health system (SUS). Method: This is a literature review study and field research, that in semi-structured interview format, with a qualitative approach, reviewing the evolution of acupuncture service being offered in the public health system (SUS). There were semi-structured interviews in January 2016, with a coordinating practices of TCM / acupuncture Municipal Secretary of Health (SMS-5), and two medical practitioners who work in outpatient acupuncture (one in each hospital) , both located in São Paulo. Achievements: The need to increase acupuncture supply in the SUS has been a priority, especially for elderly people who use this service from the issue of the treatment of pain and other diseases, because the acupuncture technique provides an improvement and comfort, thus promoting the elder care for the health of a humane and universal way by SUS
