The northern area of the city of São Paulo stands out both for its large green areas and for the cultural diversity that prevails. It is also a reflection of socioeconomic inequality when analyzed from the perspective of their territories. The present work proposes the study of the territorial development of socially vulnerable territories, with a focus on the north of São Paulo, from the encouragement and support of philanthropy and private social investment to community-based social organizations operating in the territory. By drawing a parallel between territorial development and the performance of social organizations, the research identifies that the sustainability of these organizations to achieve their final objective is intrinsically linked to the support of companies, civil society and public authorities. Then, a network is formed where each point needs to connect and strengthen. However, the relationship between these actors is weakened by subjective roles of power and subordination, where philanthropic and private social investment organizations are often placed at the top of the pyramid and supported organizations in the position of passive beneficiary. Given this scenario, this research goes into the field to investigate how these relationships happen in everyday life and how to subvert this logic rooted in a colonialist culture by proposing a decolonial philanthropy, based on bonding, active listening, co-creation, transparency and more horizontal relationships
