Introduction: Circumscribed in the Prosody field the focus on pauses can offer a detailed description in what concerns the knowledge of speech dynamic and its relations to correlate functions such as swallowing and breathing. This study is supported by the field of Prosody studies through the usage of speech technologies for the analysis of pauses data. Objective: characterize, from a physiologic point of view, (EGG - electroglottographic), the swallowing in different performances by adults speakers of Brazilian Portuguese (PB). Methodology: for this study 40 subjects without complains of swallowing, age between 18 and 64 years old, were evaluated, from whom acoustic and electrographic samples of speech fragments were collected. The speech task consisted of a reading of a text. Within the swallowing tasks subjects were asked to swallow fruit juice, saliva (with and without struggle). The EGG wave was submitted to software in order to filter low frequencies resulting in a Gx wave. The Gx wave underwent a process of acoustic inspection and labeled in order to demarcate the indicating cycles of laryngeal movements. The swallowing duration was measured, herein named dGx. The statistics of the results was made through average comparative tests (ANOVA) and the multivariate analysis (agglomerative analysis, cluster hierarchy, correlation analysis, ANCOVA, canonical and discriminating correlation analysis). Results: the explorations of the Gx wave and dGx measurements show a trend for swallowing of short duration in the speech pause in relation to the other tasks. It indicates as well that generally the subject performs two swallowings during the juice swallowing task and the swallowing saliva with struggle. Conclusions: the Gx curve and dGx measurements findings indicate a laryngeal movement, which is different for each task, during the moment of swallowing; reference values are suggested for all four tasks studied and can be applied in the future at fonoaudiological clinic, specially in the field of dysphagia
