Resumo: Considering the close relationship between parking availability and garage spaces, and the principles and guidelines that govern urban public policies on mobility, this study aims to initially present how the prioritization of private vehicles as a mode of transportation transforms cities. It shows that the search for parking is potentially more relevant than the scarcity of road space to accommodate moving cars. In this context, the study seeks to understand how the Brazilian legal system regulates the creation and use of parking facilities, using the case study of Curitiba. The analysis is based on the principles and guidelines established in federal regulations, such as the Política Nacional de Mobilidade Urbana and the Política Nacional sobre Mudança do Clima and investigates the rules established by Curitiba's legislation that directly and indirectly deal with parking and garage spaces. The article reveals the interfaces between urban policy, mobility, and sustainability, as well as the central role of municipal urban planning legislation in guaranteeing the right to the city

Mostra que a busca por onde estacionar é potencialmente mais relevante que a escassez de espaço viário para acomodar os carros movimento. Pretende, neste contexto, compreender a maneira pela qual o ordenamento jurídico brasileiro regula a criação e o uso dos estacionamentos a partir do estudo de caso do Município de Curitiba. Parte da análise dos princípios e diretrizes estabelecidas em normas federais, tais como o Política Nacional de Mobilidade Urbana e a Política Nacional sobre Mudança do Clima, e investiga as regras estabelecidas pela legislação de Curitiba que versa, direta e indiretamente, sobre estacionamentos e vagas de garagem.
