Resumo: This work aims to investigate and understand the causes that led to the outbreak of the 2007-2008 global financial crisis, as well as its specificities. The monograph is structured in three parts: understanding the historical economic context prior to the crisis and the roots of the crisis; get to know the characteristics of the financial market and also the real estate credit market in the United States, with a focus on derivatives; and, finally, the position of the Federal Reserve System before and during the crisis
