This research's central objective is to analyze the biodiversity of the Cantareira Reserve, which is located in the Atlantic Forest, one of the most important biomes in the world. Analyzing the paths that society took to conserve this region, we realized that the abundance of water as a socio-environmental, economic and political factor was decisive for the conservation of the State Park as a result of the need to preserve the springs that are intended for water supply. of the metropolis of São Paulo. The study has a multidisciplinary character, combining academic research, document analysis and field research in Serra da Cantareira, including copyright photographs for understanding and sentimental and symbolic representation of the research. The results highlight the remarkable richness of local biodiversity, confirming conservation units, and highlighting the area's planetary ecological balance. The need for integrated conservation strategies considering the protection of biodiversity, the promotion of the sustainable use of water resources, and the monitoring of human actions, is something that needs to be increasingly discussed when we think about the largest urban forest in the world
