Resumo: Long-lasting capitalist crises represent critical periods of economic instability, during which deep and prolonged recessions, elevated unemployment, and financial imbalances occur. Two of the most emblematic crises in recent history are the Great Depression of the 1929s and the global financial crisis of 2007/2008. Both had significant impacts on the world economy and left lasting marks on financial systems, economic policies, and social welfare. Despite the observed similarities between these events, there are also important differences in their origins, dynamics, and consequences. In view of this scenario, this research aims to discuss the effects of long-lasting capitalist crises from a historical perspective that allows for a more complete understanding of the complexities involved in the subject. The methodology adopted for conducting the study is a narrative literature review, of a descriptive type, with the exception of chapter two, where a systematic review on convergence and divergence points between both crises will be performed. The results indicate that the crises of the 1929s and 2007/2008 share common features, such as the central role of financial institutions, the widening of socioeconomic inequalities, and the need for government intervention to stabilize markets. However, striking differences were also identified, such as the causes and propagation mechanisms of the crises and the political responses adopted in each period. While the 1929 crisis was triggered by the collapse of the stock market and the subsequent contraction of credit, the 2007/2008 crisis originated in the housing bubble and the collapse of the subprime mortgage market. Bank bailout policies and the international coordination of efforts to combat the crisis also evolved significantly between the two events. The study in question allowed for a deeper understanding of long-lasting capitalist crises, with emphasis on the Great Depression of the 1929s and the global financial crisis of 2007/2008. By analyzing and comparing the characteristics of these two crises, it was possible to understand the similarities and differences, as well as the factors that contributed to the occurrence of each of them. This enables a better understanding of the complexities and dynamics involved in such economic events, allowing for the development of more efficient and comprehensive public policies. Finally, the study highlights the importance of historical analysis in understanding the challenges faced by capitalist economies and the need to seek innovative and sustainable solutions to face future crises

Finally, the study highlights the importance of historical analysis in understanding the challenges faced by capitalist economies and the need to seek innovative and sustainable solutions to face future crisesAs crises capitalistas de longa duração representam períodos críticos de instabilidade econômica, durante os quais ocorrem recessões profundas e prolongadas, desemprego elevado e desequilíbrios financeiros.
