Resumo: | Introduction: During the life cycle, women experience intense changes in their bodies, from puberty to perimenopause. The urogenital region suffers great impact. In addition to biological aspects, the sociocultural ones can play an important role in the development of dysfunctions, especially in the aging process. Objective: to evaluate the function and symptoms of pelvic floor and sexuality in two different groups of women aged 40 years and over: indigenous and non-indigenous women. Material and method: cross-sectional analytical study. Assessments made using a form with sociodemographic data, validated FSFI, PFDI-SF and ICIQ-SF questionnaires, applied through individual interviews, in person. Data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics for comparison purposes. Results: 70 women, 37 indigenous and 33 non-indigenous, mean age 55 ± 12 years. 53% of the women were married, 39% were illiterate, with a higher percentage of illiterate women among indigenous group. Indigenous women had a higher BMI, a greater number of children and vaginal deliveries. Non-indigenous with a higher number of cesarean sections and more difficulty breastfeeding. 63% of the sample was sexually active, but the FSFI-SF score of indigenous women was significantly higher than that of non-indigenous (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference between the groups in relation to the PFDI and ICIQ-SF, with a greater presence of stress incontinence (SUI), and non-indigenous women referring more incontinence (UI). Conclusion: The evaluation of indigenous and non-indigenous women in aging process showed a large percentage of them with an active sex life, complaints of decreased libido, lack of vaginal lubrication and pain during intercourse, and the indigenous women presenting better sexual function. Both groups had a high percentage of women with UI, and in urban women this percentage was higher. SUI was the most common in both groups, and although the indigenous women had less urinary losses, they were more severe. Lifestyle, obstetric history and behavioral and cultural factors can interfere with pelvic floor dysfunctions in women in the aging process |

SUI was the most common in both groups, and although the indigenous women had less urinary losses, they were more severe. Lifestyle, obstetric history and behavioral and cultural factors can interfere with pelvic floor dysfunctions in women in the aging processIntrodução: Durante o ciclo da vida, as mulheres passam por intensas modificações no organismo, desde a puberdade até a perimenopausa. A região urogenital sofre grande impacto.
