Resumo: | This thesis is intended to present the concept of verbal-visual quotation marks and categories of analysis for the study of the phenomenon covered. The pursued hypothesis is that, “by taking into account the utterance in its verbal-visual dimension, certain relations between its constitutive verbal and visual elements may constitute opacifying meta-enunciative unfoldings –in analogy with the dynamics of autonymic modalization present in the verbal dimension– and be considered as verbal-visual quotation marks.” The hypothesis suggests the possibility of expanding the meaning of a given visual element when comprehending the constitutive verbal-visual dimension of the utterance, likewise when quotation marks are employed in the strictly verbal dimension, i.e., constituting itself as a sort of presence/absence to be filled out by interpretation. The research aims to answer three questions. 1) How to understand the process of meta-enunciation, which is constitutive of the autonymic modalization, in the verbal-visual dimension? 2) What would be and how are constructed the opacifying meta-enunciative unfoldings (autonymic modalization) between verbal and visual elements based on the verbal-visual dimension of the enunciated utterances listed in the corpus of this research? 3) Which similarities amongst the occurrences of verbal-visual quotation marks allow developing categories of analysis for the phenomenon at issue? The corpus of analysis consists on news selected from the daily papers Folha de S.Paulo and O Estado de S.Paulo and the weekly magazine Veja in the period from September 23, 2012, to October 20, 2012. In answering the aforementioned questions under the postulated hypotheses, this thesis articulates the formulations of Authier-Revuz on autonymic modalization, the notions of concrete utterance and ideological sign stemmed from Bakhtin Circle, the studies on verbal visuality developed by Brait and the concept of instance of complex enunciation formulated by Maingueneau. Besides confirming the hypothesis by means of the analysis conducted in this study, the research presents three categories of verbal-visual quotation marks, namely direct relation between verbal and visual elements, opacification of the verbal elements in the visual dimension, and opacifying verbal-visual allegory. The intended contribution to both Applied Linguistics and Language Studies in general is to circumscribe the comprehension of the enunciative-discursive phenomenon that produces meaning by articulating the verbal and visual dimensions of the utterance, postulating the concept of verbal-visual quotation marks, and to offer categories of analysis that can be shared by future research on the effects of meanings produced in the articulation between images and verbal texts |

A hipótese perseguida é: tomando o enunciado em sua dimensão verbo-visual, determinadas relações entre elementos verbais e visuais constitutivos dele podem se configurar como desdobramentos metaenunciativos opacificantes, em analogia à dinâmica da modalização autonímica que ocorre no plano verbal, e serem consideradas como aspas verbo-visuais. A hipótese sugere a possibilidade de ampliação do sentido de determinado elemento visual quando compreendida a dimensão verbo-visual constitutiva do enunciado, tal como ocorre quando as aspas são empregadas no plano estritamente verbal, ou seja, configurando-se como um tipo de presença/ausência a ser preenchida interpretativamente. As perguntas de pesquisa a serem respondidas são três: 1) como compreender o processo de metaenunciação, constitutiva da modalização autonímica, no plano verbo-visual?, 2) O que seriam e como se constroem os desdobramentos metaenunciativos opacificantes (modalização autonímica) entre elementos verbais e visuais a partir da dimensão verbo-visual dos enunciados pertencentes ao corpus desta pesquisa? e 3) Quais as similaridades existentes entre as ocorrências das aspas verbo-visuais que possibilitam construir categorias de análise do fenômeno abordado? O corpus de análise é constituído por conjuntos noticiosos selecionados dos jornais impressos diários Folha de S.Paulo e O Estado de S.Paulo coletados entre os dias 23/09/2012 a 20/10/2012, assim como de quatro exemplares da revista semanal Veja coletados no mesmo período. Na construção das repostas às perguntas de pesquisa, orientadas pela hipótese postulada, esta tese articula as formulações de Authier-Revuz sobre modalização autonímica, as concepções de enunciado concreto e de signo ideológico advindas do Círculo de Bakhtin, os estudos sobre verbo-visualidade desenvolvidos por Brait e o conceito de instância de enunciação complexa formulado por Maingueneau. A pesquisa, para além de confirmar a hipótese por meio das análises realisadas, apresenta três categorias de aspas verbo-visuais, a saber: a de relação direta entre elementos verbais e visuais, a de opacificação de elementos verbais no plano visual e, por fim, a de alegoria verbo-visual opacificante. A contribuição pretendida, tanto para a Linguística Aplicada quanto para os Estudos da Linguagem em geral, é a de delimitar a compreensão do fenômeno enunciativo-discursivo produtor de sentidos na articulação entre o plano verbal e visual do enunciado, postulando o conceito de aspas verbo-visuais, e o de oferecer categorias de análises passíveis de serem partilhadas por pesquisas futuras que se debruçarem sobre os efeitos de sentidos produzidos na articulação entre imagens e textos verbaisCoordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorConselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológicoapplication/pdfhttp://tede2.pucsp.br/tede/retrieve/38353/Rodolfo%20Vianna.pdf.jpgporPontifícia Universidade Católica de São PauloPrograma de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Linguística Aplicada e Estudos da LinguagemPUC-SPBrasilFaculdade de Filosofia, Comunicação, Letras e ArtesAspasModalização autonímicaVerbo-visualidadeQuotation marksAutonymic modalizationVerbal visualityCNPQ::LINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES::LINGUISTICA::LINGUISTICA APLICADAAspas verbo-visuaisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da PUC_SPinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP)instacron:PUC_SPTEXTRodolfo Vianna.pdf.txtRodolfo Vianna.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain491450https://repositorio.pucsp.br/xmlui/bitstream/handle/18889/4/Rodolfo%20Vianna.pdf.txtf1a0db79aa40389f096428b3b6802fffMD54ORIGINALRodolfo Vianna.pdfRodolfo Vianna.pdfapplication/pdf6305118https://repositorio.pucsp.br/xmlui/bitstream/handle/18889/2/Rodolfo%20Vianna.pdff02faa79b894c2d366646adc477b6ad1MD52LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
