Resumo: Since the colonialist times in Brazil and throughout its history, the people always was attached to holy Mary and the popular religiosity to bear the injustices and the social inequalities. The present study have the objective to present the figure of Mary within popular religiosity and her presence in the life of the people of Latin America, especially the Brazilian people. Popular religiosity and Mary’s devotion in Brazil, arrived along with caravels of the Portuguese to the Land of Santa Cruz, along with Cabral also landed the image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Mary, a fragile girl but strong in her faith, promptly accepted the plan of God in her life, the mission of generating the child of God, God himself incarnate. The example of Mary rise in us, although the suffering and poverty people of Brazil, strength to overcome the great adversities. Popular religiosity gathers beliefs, practices, rituals, narratives, symbols emanated from sources than those accepted by religious leaderships, but being by those leaderships considered as erroneous. Even today, after the changes brought after the Second Vatican Council and a great effort by the Magisterium of the Church to evangelize the people in a more didactic and founded way in Sacred Scripture, we still see in Brazil a great manifestation of popular religiosity through pilgrimages to Several Marian shrines, prayers of the rosary in community, feasts, the blessing of the mourners and so on. The apostolic exhortation Marialis cultus (MC 59) addresses a development of a mariology according to the principles of the Lumen Gentium. Pope VI emphasizes, "Devotion to the Mary of Christ, Mother of God, originates in efficacy, in Christ finds complete Expression and through Christ in the Holy Spirit leads to the Father." The pope urges the faithful to revise their devotions to the Marian Church, taking into account four guidelines: biblical, liturgical, ecumenical and anthropological lines in order to highlight the bond of the human being with Mary through the communion of Saints. Mary's veneration must have a biblical foundation for devotion to accord with revelation. The devotions needs to be in allied with the liturgical time, making them to be inspired by the Eucharist and help the people return to it. They should favour the centrality of the Paschal Mystery, avoiding any exaggeration made in an anthropological approach in order to guide doctrine and devotion so that they are in balance with the elements of time and space lived. It is also worth noting that the devotions to Mary have a mark of the cultural characteristic. This does not detract from its religious value, but it requires a lucid spirit in order to avoid manipulations and maintain the authenticity of its core. Evangelizers have the task of helping the people to understand that "our holy ladies" are different expressions of the one and only Mary, glorified with God and a member of communion. Priests and bishops should discern existing devotions and reject those that use them for questionable purposes, which run counter to common sense or distance themselves from the centrality of Jesus

Priests and bishops should discern existing devotions and reject those that use them for questionable purposes, which run counter to common sense or distance themselves from the centrality of JesusJá no Brasil colônia e por toda sua história, o povo sempre se apegou em Maria e na religiosidade popular para suportar as injustiças e as desigualdades sociais.
