Resumo: Archeology is the study of human behavior and also its ideas, based on materials produced by human beings and the physical impacts of their presence on the environment. The beginning of archeology in the Amazon is linked to the creation of the Paraense Museum, the first scientific institution in the region, later called the Paraense Museum Emílio Goeldi, holder of important collections that gave rise to the institution's archaeological and ethnographic collection, created on October 6, 1866. The possibility of reporting the beginnings of the formation of these collections allows to reveal their historical and cultural importance in the context of the Amazon region, thus contributing with the studies of history of science and the history of Brazilian institutions
