The negative impact of deindustrialization in Brazil has been discussed on a recurring basis. This effect has expanded and impaired, from the end of the 20th century to the 21st century, the peripheral regions, such as the city of Guarulhos. The city's economy has become more sensitive to the impacts of deindustrialization over time, despite being a neighbor to the country's largest metropolitan center. The city had the reputation of being an "industrial city" and was losing this title, because of the departure of industries that previously shaped the landscape of the region. Thus, the detailed analysis of this impact to the Guarulhos region becomes essential for the discussion of means that can reverse the current situation. This work was developed through indicators that are made available by IBGE, RAIS, SEADE, CNI and the City of Guarulhos. News from the city's press media and the mainstream media, scientific articles and academic books were used. The discussion is relevant because of the consequence on employment, income, investment and consumption dynamics. The reading will present data on how the behavior of industries has been by branch and technological level, highlighting the change in the profile of the city and the customs of guarulhenses
