Young people are increasingly exposed to sounds at high intensity and frequent way, these habits are harmful to hearing. This has been a subject frequently in recent studies and worries that the severity of the findings. This research aims to measure the sound pressure level that young people are using on their portable sound (EPS). Methods: The sample was composed of 49 teenagers from a public school in the State of São Paulo in Brazil whose headphones of portable equipment (EPS) had their sound pressure level (SPL) measured. These measures of SPL were made with the use of a sound pressure level meter inserted in the ear of a manikin. The responses were analyzed in a descriptive way in values of %, mean, median and mode. Results: The value of mode for sound pressure level was 104 dB A; females were the group with the highest sound levels. Conclusion: Most young people are using their portable sound intensity above recommended, increasing the chances of hearing problems in the near future, so these young people need to be in programs in order to be aware of their risks to hearing loss
