This monograph addresses the history of economic thought based on the individual. The possibility of division into three periods will be defended. The first chapter deals with the first period, which is the classics. This period is delimited by the idea that the individual is complex, sometimes selfish, other times altruistic. Sometimes it is rational, other times it is not. The second chapter is about the neoclassics, a group in which the idea of ​​the individual was changed to a simpler one. During this period the individual became purely selfish and rational. The last chapter talks about the entire period after the neoclassicals, when the limitation of simplification became more evident. In conclusion, the text argues that these were three periods in the history of economic thought, which is a possible key to analysis
