This monograph aims to develop a reflection on the decline of the legitimacy of authority figures nowadays and their importance in the constitution of subjects as representatives of otherness. Using psychoanalysis as theoretical foundation, I start by one of its guiding elements, the father figure, to analyze the place that it occupied in the theory founded by Freud and the developments that have occurred in this subject in Lacanian reading. From this reflection, I consider the announced decline of this figure by both authors and how we can think the lack of legitimacy of authority figures today. I discuss about the consequences of the end of the traditional family structure and its impact on the question of authority, questioning about who would be the one who operates the paternal function in order to stop the full enjoyment. In my final aim, I deepen in the understanding about the fraternal bonds envisioning this as one of the possibilities for the authority and the exercise of subjectivity
