This research sought to answer the following questions: How did Catholic catechesis develop from its first organizations to the present day? How does the social, cultural and economic space interfere in the process of transforming catechesis? How did catechesis in Brazil respond to the transformations of this territory? How did the pre and post II Vatican Council view catechesis? After the II Vatican Council, what were the main transformations and how did they occur in Brazil? Through bibliographic research, the pertinence of the study on the subject was shown. This work sought to show the importance of catechesis in the construction of the social environment, and also the importance of social transformations on catechesis. The development of this research seeks to show, through Sacred Scripture, the Magisterium and theorists in the theological area, how this development and structuring of catechesis occurred in history. The methodology of this work consists of a qualitative bibliographic research using works by authors in the area as well as commentators and scientific articles. The structure of the work is composed of three chapters: 1°- Christian initiation in history; 2° The catechetical process in Brazil; 3° Catechesis as part of historical-cultural and theological transformations
