This paper examines the role played by women in the Colony Cecilia (1890-94). This was founded by Italian immigrants seeking a better life in Brazil and live under anarchist principles. In this sense, gender equality would be one of the elements present in this group. Trying to understand the roles developed by men and women of this colony guided this research. The research was based on books and documents written by one of the founders of the Colony Giovanni Rossi and books by authors who have studied the Colony, between them stands the doctoral thesis of Helena Isabel Mueller, “Flores aos rebeldes que falharam. Giovanni Rossi e a utopia anarquista: Colônia Cecília.” This work brings a new outlook on the origins and ideology of that group. There are few documents that refer to the history of women in the colony, so the need to link this issue to Gender History, Historiography since incorporated new objects and new sources of research studies that have expanded under the femininity contributed to understanding papers developed by women over time. The history of the colony and its inhabitants shows great paradox, since they would be living under the anarchist ideals, but not shared with their wives
