Resumo: | Very few attempts to identify a set of variables that control the emission of explanations to behavior have been made in the field of Behavior Analysis. Describing and explaining are typical examples of tacts. When someone describes the behavior of another, this behavior is to be considered as a discriminative stimulus. This study aimed to verify: (a) What are the controlling variables to the emission of explanations to observed behavior; (b) What role a more dynamic antecedent condition plays in controlling the participant s explaining behavior; (c) Does access to history, or parts of the history of reinforcement of a specific response interferes with explanation precision; (d) Are the explanations emitted in the context of two different speech procedures comparable and (e) Are the explanations to human behavior mainly mentalistic. An adult individual (Character) was taped while in a computer task that could be best described as a slot machine simulation. Two movies showing the Character s performance, lasting around 6 minutes, were produced. In Training Movie the history of reinforcement of the Character s clicking response was displayed, while in the Test Movie only his stable performance at the same task, errorless, was displayed. 12 adults instructed to explain the behavior of clicking the mouse displayed at the Test Movie served as participants. They were split up in 4 experimental groups: Six participants had access to history (Training Movie) but not the other six; a free operant speaking procedure was imposed to six of the participants, and a tentative procedure was imposed to the other six. The lines emitted by the participants were time located onto the Character s performance, and split up into verbalizations. These verbalizations were tagged according 3 sets of criteria: (a) Describing style; (b) Temporal Location and (c) Predominant Control. According to the obtained results, among the participants, those who had access to history typically emitted verbalizations tagged as Explains , Background scream color and containing the most autoclitics. Those who had no access typically emitted verbalizations tagged as Relationship between response and consequence and Consequence . Participants submitted to a tentative procedures emitted more verbalizations. Autoclitics were emitted mainly at the final parts of the movie, when major changes in the stimulus condition happened. Very few mentalistcs terms were emitted, their emission here considered to be the participant s explanation style |

Very few mentalistcs terms were emitted, their emission here considered to be the participant s explanation styleNa Análise do Comportamento algumas poucas tentativas de se identificar conjuntos de variáveis que controlariam a emissão de explicações do comportamento foram realizadas.
