Resumo: | Introduction: Knowledge about the proper management of the newborn's skin contributes to better nursing care and prevention of the development of skin lesions, which predisposes the risk of acquiring infections and future aggravations. This assistance consists of maintaining the integrity of the skin, assessing its conditions and preventing risk factors. Skin lesions can occur in NBs in Rooming-in and in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The nursing team must contribute to prevention actions, based on measures that aim to minimize damage to the health of the NB, and when an injury is evidenced, have adequate training and knowledge to perform the treatment. Objective: To identify the knowledge of the nursing team about care and skin lesions and to carry out training with professionals working in the AC and NICU, together with the implementation of a Standard Operating Procedure on the management and prevention of skin lesions in the NB, in order to improve nursing care. Methodology: This was an exploratory-descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, through semi-structured interviews, with 41 nursing professionals from Santa Lucinda Hospital, 18 professionals from the NICU and 23 from the AC, from February to April 2022. Data were pooled and statistically analyzed using Pearson's chi-square test. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of FCMS-PUC-SP. Results: The profile of the participants was presented by young adult women, with a professional category of NT, working in the AC in the morning shift, with time working in the sector and academic training between 5 and 20 years. The knowledge of the nursing team is reasonable about the prevention and care of skin injuries (53.65%), the incidence of injuries occurs infrequently, in the NICU the fixation and removal of adhesives, tissue hematoma and the use of devices invasive lesions were the most frequent, and in AC it was jaundice, erythema and phototherapy. The most affected regions are the trunk in the AC and genitalia in the NICU. The frequency of attempts to prevent injuries from occurring is high, but the reason for the existence and inadequate treatments is related to high work demand, lack of training and protocols/standardization in both sectors. NICU professionals showed a greater search for help with the Wound Commission, due to oximeter burn. This Commission is better evaluated by nurses, with significance being found (p-value = 0.032), which makes it possible to verify that nurses, due to their greater theoretical-scientific knowledge, identify injuries more easily. Regarding training, the preference of professionals from both sectors indicated the offer of a lecture or course. A Standard Operating Procedure on the prevention and care of skin lesions in NBs was also elaborated, for implementation in the unit. Conclusion: It is concluded that the nursing team recognizes the specificities of the skin of NBs, but still needs to be trained to prevent skin lesions from occurring |

A Standard Operating Procedure on the prevention and care of skin lesions in NBs was also elaborated, for implementation in the unit. Conclusion: It is concluded that the nursing team recognizes the specificities of the skin of NBs, but still needs to be trained to prevent skin lesions from occurringIntrodução: O conhecimento acerca do manejo adequado com a pele do recém-nascido contribui para uma melhor assistência de enfermagem e prevenção do desenvolvimento de lesões de pele, que predispõe ao risco de adquirir infecções e agravamentos futuros.
