Server Virtualization has been an existing idea since the 70’s decade. The search for the best use of existent resources brought again the debate on the concept for the specialized media. This work explores the adoption of the technology of Server Virtualization. The concepts, the benefits and the main difficulties will be presented. Questions as reduction of occupation (physical space), consumption of energy and waste of heat that go beyond the financial viability of the project will also be presented. To justify the investments in this project, the operations level benefits will be presented, well as the increase of the infrastructure flexibility. They are immediate profits that, depending on the structure of the company, can properly be much more important than the reduction of investments with the hardware. This work deals with only the vertical line of virtualization for servers environment and it does not consider the vertical lines of Desktop or Portable. The text also will not make distinction of existing products and players in the market as Microsoft, VMware and Citrix. For additional knowledge, I will mention the trend of some companies in spending some resources and efforts in the Desktop’s virtualization, for example, for customizing Call Center Service Desk's
