Resumo: | Based on the prospect of life-span and permanent education for older people, we developed a study that focused on the Open University for the Third Age’s Students (UnATI). This study aimed to identify the profile and demands of these students. From these data, we could promote strategies for more effective dissemination of this program, and propose suggestions for new workshops to attract new students. We used a questionnaire with open and close questions and a scale of four reasons. The profile was analyzed in a descriptive way, while the other variables were analyzed qualitatively through the method of Minayo. The sample consisted of 50 UnATI’s students with age equal or greater to 50 years, subscribers in the first semester of 2008. Among the interviewees, it was observed female predominance, with very wide profile of income and education. The main reason for joining the program was increased knowledge and the courses suggested by the elderly were related to physical activity, arts, computers and languages. Among the suggestions for divulgation, the interviewees suggested, especially, television, radio and the distribution of leaflets in places of greatmovement by the elderly. |
