Resumo: The present study sought to unveil the meaning of aging for the elderly resident of the rural environment, and their perception about the family relationship. The research was characterized as a qualitative study, conducted with 16 (sixteen) elderly residents of the rural area of a municipality in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul. The results showed that among those surveyed the perception of old age is mostly positive as well as the perception of the elderly in the family relationship.

La investigación se caracterizó como un estudio cualitativo, realizado con 15 (quince) residentes mayores del área rural de una ciudad en la región central de Rio Grande do Sul. Los resultados mostraron que, entre los encuestados, la percepción de la vejez también es mayormente positiva. como la percepción de los ancianos en la relación familiar.Palabras clave: Representaciones sociales; Envejecimiento; Relaciones sociales.Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar e analisar as representações sociais da velhice entre idosos moradores da uma região rural do centro do Rio Grande do Sul. A investigação caracterizou-se como um estudo qualitativo, realizado com 16 (dezesseis) idosos residentes da zona rural de um município da região central do estado do Rio Grande do Sul.
