Resumo: The aim of this study was to identify the falls risk prevalence, functional capacity and gender related differences for elderly living in a home for the aged at Santa Maria. We evaluated 14 elderly patients with average age 78,71 ± 9,18 years old. According to evaluations, we identified a deficit balance, especially among elderly women. Thus, was demonstrated the importance of physical therapy interventions that focus on stimulating the autonomy of this population.

Thus, was demonstrated the importance of physical therapy interventions that focus on stimulating the autonomy of this population.  O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar a prevalência do risco de quedas, bem como avaliar a capacidade funcional de idosos institucionalizados, identificando a existência de diferenças relacionadas ao sexo. Foram avaliados 14 idosos com média de 78,71 ± 9,18 anos. A partir das avaliações, identificou-se déficit de equilíbrio, principalmente nas idosas do sexo feminino.
