Resumo: The self-perception of aging is a determining factor of the individual's state of health, as well as the self-concept constructed of his personality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychological profile of genders as potential to influence self-perception of aging. Cross-sectional and descriptive study using the QAPE Aging Self-Perception Questionnaire in 224 seniors from Brasilia, DF. It is concluded that perceptions of aging are built by cultural patterns.

El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el perfil psicológico de los géneros como un potencial para influir en la autopercepción del envejecimiento. Estudio transversal y descriptivo, utilizando el cuestionario de autopercepción de Envejecimiento QAPE en 224 ancianos de Brasilia, DF. Se concluye que las percepciones del envejecimiento están construidas por patrones culturales.A autopercepção do envelhecimento é fator determinante do estado de saúde do indivíduo, bem como um autoconceito construído de sua personalidade. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o perfil psicológico dos gêneros como potencial em influenciar a autopercepção do envelhecimento. Estudo transversal e descritivo, com uso de questionário de autopercepção do Envelhecimento QAPE em 224 idosos de Brasília, DF.
