Resumo: | This article brings a “state of the art” research whose theme is violence against elderly women and aims to elaborate on which aspects official documents and scientific publications worldwide, alongside Brazilian theses and dissertations, have been reflecting to the topic. Violence against the elderly has social characteristics that lead to elderly women being its biggest victims. Ingrained in our culture, representations related to gender impose on these women conditions of life that impact their aging. |

Este artículo trae una investigación de "estado del arte", cuyo tema es la violencia contra las mujeres de edad avanzada, con el objetivo de mencionar los aspectos que los documentos oficiales y las publicaciones científicas en todo el mundo, sumados a las tesis y disertaciones brasileñas, han reflejado sobre la temática. La violencia contra las personas mayores tiene características sociales que hacen que las mujeres sean las mayores víctimas. Inscritas en la cultura, las representaciones relacionadas con el género imponen a estas mujeres condiciones de vida que afectan su envejecimiento. Este artigo traz uma pesquisa “estado da arte”, cujo tema é a violência contra a mulher idosa, visando a trazer os aspectos que documentos oficiais e publicações científicas mundiais, somados a teses e dissertações brasileiras, têm refletido sobre a questão. A violência contra a pessoa idosa apresenta características sociais que fazem com que as mulheres sejam as maiores vítimas. Inscritas na cultura, as representações relacionadas ao gênero impõem a estas mulheres condições de vida que impactam no seu envelhecer.
